先日、Y3・Y4合同で国立海洋博物館（マリタイムミュージアム）へ遠足に行きました。

館内ギャラリーでは、オーストラリアの成り立ちに関わる航海や貿易、海軍の歴史などに関する展示を見学しました。

 

It was excursion day last term for Years 3 and 4 of the International and Japanese Division students. As part of their in class learning about maritime history, they went on an exploration of the Maritime Museum in Darling Harbour.

 

キャプテン・クックのエンデバー号では、長い航海の間、船員たちがどのような生活を送っていたのか、実際に見て触って学びました。

They learnt about the maritime history of Australia and even got to experience first-hand  daily crew life on board Captain Cook’s ‘Endeavour’ ship replica.

食事や寝床、トイレ事情など、快適な現代の生活と比べると驚くことばかりで、みんな目を丸くしていました。

 

また、駆逐艦バンパイア号や潜水艦オンスロウ号にも実際に乗り込み、見学しました。潜水艦の望遠鏡からは、遠くにあるはずのシドニータワーが、まるで目の前にあるかのように大きく見えて、みんな驚きの声を上げていました。

They peered through telescopes attached to submarines and marvelled at being able to see Sydney Tower!

貴重な展示物から、多くのことを学んだ一日でした。

Excursions are a wonderful way to solidify what is being taught in the classroom. Students love learning in this very interactive and hands on way.
