Erika Poeche who worked in the SJIS office for thirty two years between 1969 and 2001, sadly passed away on the 15th of July 2021, due to cancer. She was 80 years of age at the time of her passing

Erika moved from Germany to Australia, and was the first (and female!) SJIS school bus driver. In addition to being a bus driver, she did many other jobs such as overseeing the Tuck Shop, being a Caretaker, and various administrative tasks. She loved children very much and was very proud of the school. She went on many school excursions with the children, dressed up as a Japanese princess in a Kimono on Sports Day, and at the SJIS School Concert she conducted and dressed up as Mozart! She always loved to entertain the students.

Since she left SJIS, Erika enjoyed travelling, and lived a very happy life surrounded by her beloved family and friends in a beautiful house built by her husband.

I would like to express my deepest condolences to her family, and share Erika’s happy loving smiles and
memories with all the former students, teachers and staff.

さよなら、　エリカ・ポーシェさん
本校で、1969年～2001年まで約32年間、事務室に勤務されたエリカ・ポーシェさんが、肝臓がんの
為、2021年7月15日に永眠されました。（享年80歳）
エリカさんはドイツからオーストラリアへ移住され、本校初めてのスクールバス女性ドライバーとし
て雇用されました。バスドライバーの他に、タックショップ、ケアテイカー、事務室で様々なお仕事
をテキパキとこなされ、子供たちと日本人学校が大好きで、とても誇りに思っておられました。子供
たちと遠足へ一緒に行ったり、スポーツデイでは着物をきて日本のお姫様に扮したり、スクールコン
サートでは、モーツァルトに扮して指揮をしたり、いつも子供たちを楽しませてくれました。
エリカさんは退職後、旅行をしたり、ご主人と一緒に建てた美しい家で、愛するご家族や友人たちに
囲まれ、大変幸せな人生をおくられました。
もと生徒さんたちや教職員の皆さまと共に、生前のエリカさんとの楽しかった日々と笑顔を思い出し
ながら、つつしんでお悔やみにかえさせていただきたいと思います。
