Last week, the students learned Setsubun Festival in our Japanese language classes. Setsubun, “seasonal division” is a festival held on February 2, 3 or 4, one day before the start of spring according to the Japanese lunar calendar. Setsubun is considered a new start of sorts.
Year5 and 6 students from the International Division were celebrating Setsubun with all our kindergarten students. They led the event by teaching about Setsubun and singing the Mamemaki song. Lastly, we did Mamemaki, bean throwing, all together. We had some friendly Oni (Yr 5/6 students) and brave kindergarten children threw beans at them. We had a lot of fun! It was great to see Yr 5/6 students’ leadership skills as well.

今週、日本語科の授業の中で、節分の行事について学びました。節分は、旧暦の立春の前日、2月2日、3日、4日に行われるお祭りです。節分は新しい門出と考えられています。
国際学級の5,6年生は、キンダガーテンの全生徒と一緒に節分をお祝いしました。5,6年生は節分についてお話をし、豆まきの歌を一緒に歌いました。最後にみんなで豆まきをしました。フレンドリーな鬼（5,6年生）に勇敢なキンダガーテンの子どもたちが豆を投げて鬼をやっつけました。5,6年生がリーダーシップを発揮して、とても楽しい行事になりました。
