On Sunday, 28 September, SJIS staff and our school captains represented SJIS by planting a cherry blossom tree in Cowra.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Cowra is a historic and significant site, as there are the Japanese Gardens and Cultural Centre, as well as the Cowra War Cemetery and site of the Prisoner of War Camp.The Gardens were created as a sign of peace and reconciliation.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Each spring, many locals and visitors enjoy \u201cthe Avenue of Cherry Trees (Sakura Avenue)\u201d which links the Japanese Garden with the POW site. Each tree is sponsored by Japanese businesses as well as Australian school children.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

This year, SJIS proudly joined this initiative, raising donations within our school and donating our own cherry blossom tree and plaque.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
