Admissions | Japanese Division - High School (Y7-Y9 Japanese Division)
Thank you for your interest in enrolling in the Japanese Division High School of the Sydney Japanese International School. Students enrolled in the Japanese Division study the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) curriculum, and also have daily English lessons.
To ensure eligibility for enrolment in the Japanese Division, prospective students and their families must meet certain legal conditions, including holding the appropriate visas to legally reside, work, or study in Australia.
Enrolment process
To begin the enrolment process for a place in the Japanese Division High School, please:

Attend an Open Day, School Tour, or Information Session
Explore our campus and community through an Open Day, private tour, or online school information session. -
Submit the Online Application Form
Read and agree to the Enrolment Terms and Conditions and complete the application form and pay the $220 assessment fee to initiate your application. -
Assessment & Interview
Attend an assessment/interview with the Principal or Deputy Principal. -
Receive a Letter of Offer
Successful applicants will receive an official Letter of Offer to confirm enrolment. -
Attend Orientation
Join our orientation session to prepare your child for a seamless transition into school life. -
First Day of School
Welcome to the SJIS community! Your child officially begins their journey with us.
* All students commencing their SJIS education in the Japanese Division (MEXT Curriculum) will be invited to meet with the Principal/Deputy Principal of Japanese Division for an assessment. Parents will have the opportunity to ask questions during this time.
Accepted visas
Children who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents are required to hold a temporary visa. This includes business visas, research visas, and bridging visas.
Please note that students holding a student visa in their own name are not accepted. As government regulations are specific and detailed, we recommend contacting the school in advance for further guidance.
Children with Japanese citizenship are eligible to enrol in the SJIS Japanese Division (Japanese Curriculum).
Students who are not Japanese citizens, but who have been undertaking Japanese education may also be eligible to enrol in the Japanese Division. However, they must meet certain entry requirements before any offer of enrolment is granted. Please contact our enrolment team for more information.
Required documentation
Please prepare the following documents from the school your child is currently attending:
- Student registration certificate
- Student guidance report
- School textbooks benefit report for school students
- Medical examination report
- Dental examination report
Other necessary documents include: Textbooks (If coming from Japan, please obtain textbooks from the Japan Overseas Education Services before coming to Australia. You must submit the ‘School Textbooks Benefit Report for School Students’ to Japan Overseas Education Services to receive the benefit.)

Experience Day
At Sydney Japanese International School, we warmly welcome prospective students from Year 1 to Year 9 to experience a day in the life of an SJIS student. This special Experience Day is thoughtfully designed exclusively for families who are seriously considering enrolment at our school in the near future. The cost is $150 per day.
