Our School | Principal's Welcome
"At SJIS, we encourage students to learn about and deepen their understanding of many cultures and histories"
Welcome to the Sydney Japanese International School.
Welcome to the Sydney Japanese International School (SJIS), a truly unique learning community nestled in a beautiful, natural setting just 30 minutes from the heart of Sydney.
At SJIS, we pride ourselves on offering a distinctive bilingual and bicultural education. Our students learn side-by-side on one campus, following either the Japanese Division’s curriculum approved by MEXT or the International Division’s curriculum, which follows the New South Wales (NSW) syllabus just like other local schools. This provides a rich, integrated environment where our students are taught to act as “bridges,” using their language skills and experiences to contribute both locally and internationally. We are dedicated to nurturing each child, providing an education that develops strength, confidence, and prepares them for a bright future. Our core values—courtesy, honesty, responsibility, justice, generosity, perseverance, and respect—are at the heart of everything we do.
Our small class sizes are one of our greatest strengths. They allow our dedicated staff to truly know each student as an individual. This supportive and friendly atmosphere empowers every child to work hard, challenge themselves, and reach their full potential.
While our two divisions have distinct curricula, the true magic happens when our students come together. In subjects like music, art, PE, and programming, students from both divisions learn together. They also mingle every day during lunch, recess, and school events, creating a strong social environment where they learn to respect and communicate with one another, developing crucial teamwork and flexibility.
I am confident that our staff provides a safe and caring atmosphere where your child will thrive. We look forward to welcoming your family to our community.
