International Division Enrolment Process
Application Process for Years 1-6 of the International Division
Thank you for your interest in applying to the Sydney Japanese International School.
Please note, there are a few legal conditions that prospective students must meet in order to be eligible for enrolment at SJIS. It is a requirement of the school that families have the correct visas to legally live, work or study in Australia. The school does not accept applicants on a tourist visa.
In order to be considered for a place in the SJIS International Division, prospective families are asked to lodge a completed application form (available below) and to pay an application fee. Families will then be invited to SJIS to tour the school and undertake an assessment.
Summary of Enrolment Process
- Read the Enrolment Terms and Conditions and fill out the Online Application Form. You can choose to proceed in English or Japanese. Please select the appropriate language at the top right-hand corner of the application page by clicking on the language button.
- Complete payment of the application fee for your application to be added to the waiting list. Await notification of assessment.
- Have an assessment with the Head of International Division.
- Following a successful assessment, enrolment forms and Conditions of Entry will be sent. Nominated fees need to be paid at this time.
Accepted visa
We do not accept enrolments from students on an international student visa. Parents must have either a visa to stay in Australia, citizenship, permanent residency, business visa, or researcher visa. Tourist visas are not eligible for enrolment in SJIS.
Language Proficiency
Students seeking admission beyond Year 1 require English proficiency. If the student’s English ability is insufficient at the stage of assessment, SJIS may allow admission on particular conditions, outlined by the Head of International Division. If you are unsure whether your child’s English language ability will meet the entrance requirements, please contact us.
About the Assessment
Any student who wishes to commence their SJIS education from Year 1 and onwards in the International Division (NSW Curriculum) will be required to undertake an assessment of their language skills, so as to place them in the appropriate grade and language stream
Required documentation
Please bring a copy of the latest school report (grades) and passport from the school attended at the time of assessment.
