Let us introduce the unique music and cooking classes offered at the SJIS Japanese Division.
In music class, our Year5 students are learning to play the Koto, a traditional Japanese string instrument. They begin with a respectful bow, adjust their posture, and then play. The piece they are practicing is the iconic “Sakura Sakura (Cherry blossoms)” and they are working diligently to perfect their performance.
In cooking class, the students recently had a hands-on cooking lesson where they made “Shiratama with Kinako and Azuki (sweet rice dumplings with sweet soy flour and azuki beans) “.
Carefully handling the heat, they prepared, boiled, and beautifully plated their dango, which they then enjoyed together with smiles all around.

Name

The Sydney Japanese International School acknowledges the Garigal people as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which our school is located. We pay our respects to their ancestors and descendants who continue cultural and spiritual connections to Country. We recognise that these lands have always been places of teaching, learning and storytelling. May the spirit of the Garigal people always be present with us under the shade of the beautiful trees across our campus, when we hear the sounds of nature and feel the sun and ocean breeze on our skin, and as we grow, play, learn and connect.
